

William Defee, age 80, of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on August 17, 1944, in Luverne, Alabama, to WT and Mary Nell Defee. William lived a vibrant life defined by his laid-back personality, deep love for family and friends, and a readiness to help anyone in need. William graduated from Lanier High School in 1961. After proudly serving in the US Army in Korea and Army Reserves at Fort Rucker, he dedicated over 35 years to a career in civil service within the print industry. Alongside this, he worked part-time with the City of Montgomery for 20 years and often took on additional jobs to support his family. Passionate about fishing, golf, and cheering for Auburn sports, William will be remembered as a devoted family man and a friend to all. His unmatched ability to offer wise life advice and simply be there for those he cared about left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
William is survived by his children, Danny Defee and Anita Johnsen; his brother, Terry Defee; his sister, Barbara Jackson; and his grandchildren, Jessica Barefoot and Anna Defee, and his great grandson Luke Barefoot.
He was predeceased by his parents, WT and Mary Defee, and his siblings, Carol Vinson, Cathy Boone, and Joyce Wood.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home 10505 Atlanta Hwy, Montgomery, Alabama. A funeral will be held beginning at 11:00 AM with interment to follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse Hurricane Helene Relief, a cause close to William’s heart.
