William Carl Walters, 90, a resident of Verbena, AL, passed away July 6, 2024. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation to start at 10:00 am with celebration of life service to begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Wes Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Alabama Heritage cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Mr. Walters was preceded in death by his parents William Sinclair and Annie Mae Walters, his brother Joe and his loving wife of 63 years Betty Rose Walters. He is survived by his three children Donna Brown, Melissa (James) Selmon and W. Carl (Susan) Walters II, eight grandchildren Duaine (Pam) Reynolds, Valerie Cuevas, Bryan (Tracy) Selmon, Will Selmon, Brittany (Levi) Collins, Heather (Phillip) Finley, Lindsay Walters and Patrick Walters (Lizzy Shoner), twelve great grandchildren Trent, Dala, Olivia, Emmitt, Ashlynn, Kinsley, Maverick, Kolten, Kinsley, Khloe, Ben and Cady, a brother Lee (Wally) Walters. Mr. Walters was a husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family dearly. He was born in Smackover, Arkansas but grew up in Meridian, Mississippi. He honorably served in the Mississippi National Guard and the US Army for six years. He had a 45-year career with the Winn Dixie Corporation where he held multiple high-level management positions after starting as a butcher. While working and raising a family he earned a Business Marketing degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. He enjoyed the outdoors being an avid fisherman, hunter, and lifelong boater. He very much loved his beautiful home on Lake Mitchell. This was truly his “happy place”. He was a man of purpose and action, that rose early in the morning and was constantly in motion until the sun set each day. Now he has a well-deserved rest!
