Darrell Anthony Frederick, a longtime resident of Bayou Vista, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the age of 64.

A man with the biggest and kindest heart, Darrell was known to open his home to anyone who needed a place to stay and a meal to eat. Everyone who knew him, knew Darrell was an excellent cook. Some of his best meals were Cajun favorites. Besides cooking, Darrell also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and woodworking. In fact, he built his own home in Bayou Vista and crafted many beautiful cypress swings. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid LSU fan. His family remembers how Darrell was always watching the History Channel or how he could always answer random Jeopardy questions. A true Cajun, Darrell adored the culture of his heritage, the language, food, parties, and music....he loved it all. He was the life of the party and had Joie De Vivre (the zest for life). A faithful Catholic with a passion for the church, Darrell was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a 4th Degree Knight holding the position of the Faithful Navigator. The greatest loves in his life were his children and his grandchildren. Anyone who knew him knew they were his pride and joy. Darrell was a great man who will be greatly missed but never forgotten. In his own words, C'est La Vie.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Sable Frederick Hernandez "Marie" and her husband, Esteban Thomas Hernandez, of Morgan City; his son, Darrell Anthony Frederick Jr. “Andy” of Katy, TX.; two grandchildren, Esteban Thomas Hernandez Jr. and Kapri June Hernandez; siblings, Annette Frederick Exnicious and Rickey Frederick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland Frederick and Carolyn Beall Frederick; and one sister, Eva Frederick.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Sunday, May 2, 2021 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a rosary being prayed at 7:00pm at Hargrave Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 10:00am until dismissal at 1:15pm at Hargrave Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Darrell on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 2:00pm at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Bayou Vista. Graveside services will follow the mass at the Berwick Mausoleum with Military Honors being rendered by the East St. Mary Veteran's Funeral Squad.

My deepest condolences to everyone in the family. I always considered Darrell one of my first friends in Louisiana. I am heartbroken for all. May he fly high like an eagle; knowing Darrell, he'd say more like a buzzard. Rest Easy my friend. I'm glad we had one more chit chat...until we meet again, have peace.

My Prayers are with your and your family. May Jesus hold him tight. You will be missed. He was our good neighbor. We lived by each other for 21 years. He loved when I gave him fish and my red beans. God Bless you Mr. Darrell and hold you . I will miss your laugh.
