She was a native of Cuba and a long-time resident of Morgan City. She was a school teacher in Cuba with a master’s degree in Education. When she arrived in Morgan City in the early 1960’s she was employed by First National Bank, currently Hancock-Whitney, where she spent thirty years and retired at the age of eighty.
Gloria was a gentle, loving person who always had a smile for everyone she met. She assisted many Hispanic newcomers in getting started with their new life in this area. Gloria was also an artist specializing in oil paintings that are currently hanging in many homes and businesses in the Morgan City area. She loved the beach, swimming, and salt water fishing with her husband Pedro.
She is survived by her daughter Gloria Barousse (spouse David), her son Jose E. Hernandez (companion Brenda Thibodaux), seven grandchildren, Antonio Falcon III, Alejandro Falcon (Sandi), Jose Hernandez Jr. (Sarah), Joe Ellen Hernandez, Jessica Hernandez, David E Barousse Jr. (Summer), and Elizabeth Bearb (Brian), and fifteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-three years Pedro E Hernandez, her parents, one child, two brothers, two sisters and two nephews.
The family requests that a time of visitation be observed on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 8:30am until 10:30am with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Church, in Morgan City, La. Following services Gloria will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
The family will also like to thank the Staff of Morgan City Health Care for the excellent and professional care given during her stay there. They are also very grateful to Dr. Francis Metz and his staff as well as the staff of Notre Dame Hospice for their support and services.
