Grace Mayon

August 14, 1923 – September 15, 2012

Grace Rita Scadlock Mayon, a lifelong resident of Morgan City and a member of Holy Cross Parish, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Teche Regional Medical Center.

After a two year long illness, Grace was called home to meet her Lord, her husband Bernie, and her Grandson Vic.

Raised during the depression years, Grace went to work at an early age to do her part in helping her family which she continued into her adulthood. She was a devoted wife and mother. Usually working two jobs to provide extras for her three girls, she worked for the St. Mary Parish School Board as a cafeteria manager at Maitland Elementary School from 1955 until retiring in 1985. Ask most people in town and they will say, “Yes, Mrs. Grace fed me.”

Grace then spent the next 27 years in a voluntary capacity for various senior and civic organizations in our community. She was instrumental in involving our local politicians in our senior citizens groups. She was a fountain of knowledge and local history for anyone researching their family tree or trying to locate lost relatives. She truly was one of a kind.

Grace is survived by her three daughters; Evelyn Williams, Nancy Solar and Lana Sikes and husband Charles; her grandchildren Bernie Williams, Vickie Williams, Starlyn Ashley, Melanie Jett and husband Nunsie, Aja Hebert and husband Jaysen, and Shaun Sikes; great-grandchildren Corbert Dinger, Jr. and wife Marcelle, Destiny Dinger, Bethany Mecom, Christina Williams, Joseph Williams, Lauren Martin and husband Chris, Ariel Ashley, Kennedy Ashley, Michael Ortiz, Landon Hebert and Madden Hebert; great-great grandchildren Aubrey Mecom, Trey Dinger, Tate Martin and Kylee Hebert; and one sister Hazel Anslem.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bernie Mayon; grandson Victor Williams III; son-in-law Victor Williams Jr.; her parents ; three brothers; and two sisters.

A time of remembrance will be observed Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Hargrave Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. continuing Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Holy Cross Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m.

A time of celebration and remembrance of her life will follow interment at Hargrave Funeral Home. Family and friend are invited.
