Juanita Elaine deLaunay, a native of Lake Arthur, Louisiana, called Lafayette home for many years. Her life journey took her to Texas and Singapore for a time, but in later years she made the heartfelt decision to move closer to her cherished family in Morgan City, LA. She was called to her heavenly home on Friday, April 24, 2026 at the age of 91.
Juanita lived a beautiful and full life across her remarkable 91 years, touching the hearts of everyone blessed enough to know her. She was a loving, patient, and deeply caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose warmth created a lasting sense of home for her family. Known for her quick wit and delightfully sassy sense of humor, she brought laughter and light into everyday moments. She found joy in life’s simple wonders—painting with natural talent, tending to her treasured plants and flowers, and quietly watching storms roll in. She cherished the beauty of God’s creation and passed that appreciation on to her family through memories filled with rare, cool spring days, rainbows, 4 leaf clover picking, and even playful antics like dyeing her hair pink. Affectionately known as Mumskie, Gran-e and Gigi, she held a special place in so many hearts, including many of the friends of her children. Above all, her love for God guided her life; though she always carried Him in her heart, her faith deepened profoundly after a health journey in 2014, shaping her into an even more reflective and spiritually grounded woman. Like the butterflies she adored, Juanita was unique and truly blossomed, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and beautiful memories that we will cherish forever.
Those left to cherish Juanita’s beautiful memory are her daughter, Debby H. Barletta and her husband, Billy, and their three children, James, Erica, and Nicholas “Nic”; her son, Matthew Hebert and his wife, Danielle, and their children, Ciara and Isabella; and her daughter, Cynthia Hebert Randall and her husband, Chris; and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Paul deLaunay; and two sisters, Karen deLaunay Fung and Margaret deLaunay.
She was reunited in heaven with her daughter, Linda Hebert Aucoin; her former husband, Jim Hebert; her father, Louis Felix deLaunay; her mother, Juanita Aspasie-Broussard deLaunay; and her brothers, Nicky, Michael, and John deLaunay.
A time of memorial visitation will be held for Juanita on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 2:00 at The Crossway Ministry, in Patterson, LA. The celebration of Juanita’s life will begin at 2:30 pm at the church with family, friends, and Pastor Matt Hebert presiding over the service. In keeping with Juanita’s wishes, graveside services will be held privately by the family at a later date.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Melancon and staff, Dr. Solet at CIS in Morgan City, in addition to the rehab team at Ochsner’s St. Mary and Terrebonne General Critical Care for their care, dedication and support of Juanita.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hargrave Funeral Home of Morgan City, Louisiana.
