It is with great sorrow and deep love that the Fromenthal family announces the passing of their beloved matriarch, Marie Hulin Fromenthal, who passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was 91 years of age.
Marie was born on July 23, 1934, in St. Martinville, Louisiana, to the late Albert Hulin and the late Marie Landry Hulin. From a very young age, Marie faced uncertain odds. Her father passed away early in her life, and her mother was gravely ill and hospitalized. Rather than enter foster care as her brothers did, Marie and her sister, Dorothy, courageously set out on their own to begin building their lives. Together, they rented a small room and found work as waitresses in a local diner. In time, they took in their brothers, Paul and Gene, and continued caring for one another as a family.
Marie would soon meet the love of her life, William J. Fromenthal, and together they began a new and beautiful chapter. They were blessed with four children — William Jr., Patricia, Daniel, and Terry — who would remain the pride and joy of her life.
Although Marie devoted most of her years to being a homemaker, a role she cherished deeply, she also worked outside the home. She was employed at the Plantation Inn in Bayou Vista, where through hard work and dedication she advanced from her position as a waitress to the front office as a bookkeeper. Another job she held that had a special memory for Marie was her time at the Royal Castle Restaurant in Morgan City. It was there that she met a young man who worked with PHI and would boast about one day being a famous country singer. Thay young man was none other than the legendary Kris Kristofferson, a famous musician and actor. It was one of her favorite memories of that time and she spoke of it often.
Marie found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. Her children fondly recall her exceptional cooking, especially her famous white beans and duck. She was also an avid angler who loved fishing trips with William and the children — often out-fishing her husband and proudly reeling in reds, sac-a-lait, and bass. After a day on the water, the family would set up camp, cook their fresh catch, and share laughter and love — memories that will be treasured forever. Marie also loved to travel, with her most memorable trips being to Mount Rushmore and the Grand Canyon. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, playing Pokeno with her ladies’ group, and winning more than her fair share of rummy games.
Above all, Marie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. While her absence leaves a deep void, her family rejoices knowing she is now at peace and reunited with her loved ones. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts until the day we meet again. Rest well, dear Marie. We love you.
Those left to cherish her memory are her four children, William J. Fromenthal, Jr. (Mitzi), Patricia Fromenthal Landry (Duane), Daniel Fromenthal (Darlene), and Terry Fromenthal(Reva); her eight grandchildren: Sarah Fromenthal Akers (Erik), Katie Fromenthal Robinson, Erica Fromenthal Bacqué (Sam), Dr. April Landry (Carlos), James Landry (Skye), Danielle Fromenthal, Ory Fromenthal (Lois), andTerry “T.J.” Fromenthal, Jr. (Leslie); and her eight great-grandchildren: Maverick Robinson, Silas Akers, Colter Landry, Lila Landry, Evie Landry, Andrew Fromenthal, Beau Fromenthal, and Tucker Fromenthal.
Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William J. Fromenthal, Sr.; her parents, Albert and Marie Hulin; her sister, Dorothy Trahan; and her brothers, Paul Hulin and Gene Antoine Hulin.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 at Bayou Vista Baptist Church, 411 Field Road, beginning at 9:00 am and will continue until service time at 11:00 am. Funeral services celebrating Marie’s life will begin at 11:00 am with Brother Ronnie Mabile officiating. Following the service, Marie will be laid to rest with her husband at Berwick Cemetery.
