Ruben was a devoted husband and father who found his greatest joy in time spent with his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was deeply involved in his community, generously serving on numerous local boards and giving his time wherever it was needed. A self-made man, Ruben worked hard as a welder until his retirement, after which he invested in rental properties—often showing more kindness to his renters than business demanded, much to his wife’s gentle amusement. He was a proud member and a past governor of the Moose Lodge, the East St. Mary Veteran Honor Guard, and the American Legion. Down-to-earth and hardworking, Ruben understood the value of living simply and honestly. Above all, he wanted the very best for his children, especially when it came to their education, and he took great pride in supporting their futures.
Those left to cherish Ruben's wonderful memory are his three sons, Ruben A. Trevino and his spouse, Garnet, Mario E. Trevino and his spouse, Mimi, and John P. Trevino Sr. and his wife, Narcella; nine grandchildren, John Trevino Jr., Austin Trevino, Maria Wade, Roman Trevino, Dalton Trevino, Alejandro Trevino, Gianna Trevino, Nate Trevino and Miranda "MAT" Trevino, and three great grandchildren, Emersyn Wade, Cooper Wade and Lyla Trevino.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria O. Trevino; his father, Abelardo Trevino; his mother, Maria Frias Trevino; three brothers, Oscar, Ref, and Alfred Trevino and one sister, Theresa Alcina.
