Sidney Joseph Cortez, a native and lifelong resident of Morgan City, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the age of 75. He was the son of the late, Julius J. Cortez and the late, Elma Comeaux Cortez Percle.
Sidney was always a loner, earning him the name "L.B. Lonely Boy" as he traveled many years throughout Louisiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was during this time that he met his partner of 43 years, Wayne London. Sidney loved playing his guitar while listening to country music, especially Loretta Lynn (which he also named his car). He also loved to dance and adored his animals. It broke Sidney's heart to lose his babies, Desi & Mimi. After Wayne passed on, Sidney rescued a fur baby and named him after his partner, Wayne. Sidney always protected his heart. When he loved someone, which was not always easy for him, you were very special to him and he showed it. Even though he never had much, he would give you the shirt off his back.
Sidney is survived by his niece and caregiver, Susie Billiot; his older sister, Diana C. Aleman (who was like a mother to him his whole life); his loving pet, Wayne; one brother, J.C. Cortez; another sister, Gaydale Aucoin; his best friend, Gail Scully and her wife, Lisa; his godchildren, Butch Stocker, Armond LeBlanc, Jarrod LeBlanc, and Michele Stewart; numerous nieces and nephews, and family.
Susie and Diana would like to thank his friends and neighbors for all the help, care, and love shown to Sidney, especially Ceolia Badeaux, Gardon Francis, Bea Eues, and Poppie & Raul for all they've done for Sidney. Susie and Diana cannot thank his loving nurse, Ashley Lemoine enough for all the loving care she gave to him. She went above and beyond the call of duty and is a true definition of a nurse. Thank you also to the staff of Journey Hospice, Sidney's doctors & their staff, Dr. Eric Melancon, especially his niece, Kayla Gros, Dr. Darrell Solet & Staff, and "Preacher Man" Ronald McCall.
Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, his step father, Harvey Percle; his life partner, Wayne London; his beloved pets, Desi & Mimi; his best friend, Daisy Mae Billiot.
Til we reunite again Uncle Sid, I love you & will miss you - Sue
