Betty Jane Hanes

Betty Jane Hanes, 88, of Muskegon, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2016 at Lake Woods Nursing Home in Muskegon. Betty was born in Detroit, MI on April 11, 1928, to Enoch and Olive (McClure) Ellison. She married her late husband, Eric Ellsworth Hanes, Jr. "Lucky", on October 21, 1944. He preceded her in death in 1988. She is survived by her 6 children and their spouses: Dan (Linda) Hanes of Baldwin, Jerry (Pat) Hanes of Muskegon, Bob (Becky) Hanes of Muskegon, Bruce Hanes of Muskegon, Jeanne (John) Jager of Whitehall, and Eric (Corrine) Hanes of Muskegon. She has 9 grandchildren: Danny Lee Hanes (deceased), Billy (Tonya) Hanes, Adam (Keysha) Hanes, Mandi (Eli) Amburgey, Lena (Steve) Erickson, John Jager, Dylan Miller, Kyle Jager, and Ellie Jager. She is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren: Evie Hanes, Amber Hanes, Kahlan Erickson, Charlotte Hanes, Alex Hanes, and Maxwell Amburgey.

A celebration of Betty's life will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 11:00 am, at First Wesleyan Church, 1040 E. Forest Ave., Muskegon. A luncheon will follow after the service. The family requests any memorial contributions to be made to Muskegon Harbor Hospice, 1050 W. Western Avenue, Suite 400, Muskegon, MI 49441.
