

We mourn the passing of Darlene Wheeler, who left us peacefully on April 13th, 2026 in Muskegon, Michigan at the age of 73, after a long battle with dementia. She was a lifelong resident of the area, born September 4, 1952, to Emma and Lester Singleton. Darlene was a graduate of Orchard View High School and was a member of Fellowship Reformed Church. She dedicated her career to nurturing children, before she retired, she served as the head of Child Care at Orchard View Early Elementary school and also worked in the Preschool there.
Darlene will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend; forever a “teacher” to family and friends where she always had crafts and fun activities for the kids to participate in during any gathering. On June 6, 1968, she married Larry Wheeler, and he survives her along with their 2 children, Larry Wheeler Jr., and his children Dawson, Brady, and Mackenzie of Muskegon, MI; Angela Sternburgh, her husband Jason, and their children Joshua, Maxwell, Genevieve, and Grayden of Arlington Heights, IL. Darlene is also survived by her sister, Derita Leatherman and by many friends, family, and loved ones.
A CELEBRATION OF DARLENE’S LIFE will be held at 2:00 – 4:30 pm on Saturday, May 2nd at Fellowship Reformed Church, 4200 E Apple Avenue in the Activity Center/Gym with Pastor Mike Van Kampen officiating. VISITATION with Darlene’s family will be from 2:00- 3:00 pm, the Service will be from 3:00- 3:30 pm, and Refreshments from 3:30 – 4:30 pm. Anyone planning to attend, please use doors E or F to enter.
