

David was born in Stanwood, Michigan, to Vernon and Myrtle Cole. He was raised in Muskegon, Michigan, where he attended Orchard View Public Schools and graduated from Orchard View High School. After graduation, David joined the United States Navy, serving his country from 1976 until 1984.
After his military service, David transformed his life by becoming a certified welder, earning a reputation for his skill and unwavering dedication to his craft. When he wasn't working, he embraced the beauty of the outdoors, often found fishing, camping, or hunting. David's love for nature was complemented by the companionship of his beloved dog, Storm. He also found joy in shooting pool at various bars and actively participated in pool leagues, showcasing his competitive spirit and love for camaraderie.
David was truly the life of the party, inspiring joy in every gathering he attended and often creating his own celebrations. His radiant spirit illuminated any room, and he cherished every moment with his family, often holding a cold Busch beer. With a joke always at the ready, David's legacy will be one of kindness, a loving heart, and an unwavering willingness to help those in need. His passion for peanut butter was just one of the many ways he brought a sense of fun and joy into everyday life.
He leaves behind brokenhearted loved ones who will miss him dearly: his children, Virginia Cole and Joseph Cole; his stepson, David Cunningham; and his grandchildren, Alec Waldie, Colby Hudson, Braxton Jewell, Dan Maturen, Cierra Maturen, Caleb Cole, Chasity Sellers, Aleshanee Crawford, and Charliegh Crawford. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Octaevia, Aurora, Emourie, and Caleb Jr.; his sisters, Eilene Spink, June Dean, and Joyce Bates; his brother, Laurin Cole; and his faithful dog, Storm.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Myrtle Cole; his brothers, Lloyd Cole, Lyle Cole, and Carl Cole; and his daughters, Mary Cole and Amanda Jewell.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of David's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the VFW located at 5201 Airline Rd, Muskegon, Michigan 49444. The ceremony will include military honors to honor the legacy he leaves behind.
