Muskegon
Our precious Dad and Pop passed away on Friday, July 22nd, 2011.
He fought very hard to make it through his heart surgery two days prior.
He was in God’s hands and in his lovely wife’s arms when he left us.
Dad was born in Muskegon on November 7, 1929. He married his sweetheart
Dolores “De” Drent on November 10, 1951. They were married for 58 ½ years and
were inseparable until her passing last year.
Dad worked at Holland Motor Express for 47 years as a city truck driver.
He was member of the Viking Lodge.
He attended workouts at Mercy H.e.a.r.t Center and enjoyed all of his friends in his “club”.
After retirement he volunteered at the American Red Cross ~ Muskegon, helping with transportation.
He loved his morning drives to the coffee shop, followed by a drive past Lake Michigan and a stop for
the newspaper.
Gail & Sally were the luckiest girls to have such a wonderful Dad.
He was always there for them. They were grateful for his hugs, love and kindness.
He taught them what a good husband and father should be.
He was the most loving and fun Pop to his grandchildren. Both here in Muskegon
and in Idaho . Distance never mattered ~ he had a close relationship with them all.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores, his parents, brothers and sisters.
Al is survived by his two daughters ~ Gail Franklin (Mark) of Boise, Idaho and
Sally Drent Cook (Davey Larsen) of Muskegon.
He is also survived by his incredible grandchildren who loved him so very much.
Katie Booth (Greg) and Adam Franklin, both of Boise, Idaho. Andrew Bozell, Molly
Bozell, Reed Cook and Camron Cook all of Muskegon and his best friend and brother-in-law, Don Carrier. In seven weeks Al was to be a first time Great ~Pop to Molly’s precious baby boy, JaMar Jr.
Thank you to West Shore Cardiothoracic and Cardiology. Thanks so much to his surgical team for the
many, many hours of surgery and your kindness towards us. Also, thanks to the ICU staff at Mercy Hospital.
Goodbye precious Dad ~ have fun with Mom. We will miss you and love you forever.
