Esther Mae Beean, age 85, of Hesperia, Michigan passed away March 6, 2014 at Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont, Michigan. She was born on October 6, 1928 in Blanchard to Otto and Dora Shaw Larsen. Esther married Clare J. Beean on November 24, 1950 in Blanchard, MI. They built their home in Ithaca in 1952 and lived there until relocating to Hesperia in 2008. Esther and Clare loved to travel and chronicled their journeys with photos and home movies from all 50 states, Europe, and Australia. Esther was a high school business teacher for 30+ years and retired from Ithaca Public School in 1988. She was a member of the Ferry United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and spent many evenings curled up in a comfortable chair reading a good book. Esther said she preferred to make better use of her time by crocheting and/or knitting numerous projects while watching TV.
Esther is survived by her children Karen Kasankiewicz of Hesperia, MI and Lillian Beean of Tewksbury, MA; her grandchildren Scott (Barbara) Carter of Fremont, Terry Carter of Shelby, Kelly (Martin) Johnson of White Pigeon, Renee Bohner of Wyoming, MI, and Michael Kasankiewicz Jr. of Punta Gorda, FL; eleven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and special caregiver Kelly Thompson. Esther was preceded in death by her husband Clare in 2008.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 13 at Ferry United Methodist Church in Ferry, MI. There will be a private family service at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to:
