George Francis Wood

George Francis Wood, Sr.

George passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, January 7, 2021. He will be remembered for many things; including always being willing to help out a friend or family member in need, volunteering in his community at the BMX bicycle track in Cloverville, the Hill Climb in Norton Shores, and Thunderbird Raceway in North Muskegon. George enjoyed shooting the breeze with the guys from CWC Textron where he worked 3rd shift for 45 years, then at ASAP Towing driving cars after retirement for ice cream money. Some of his hobbies included deer hunting with the guys in his family, attending car shows, the stock car races and traveling when his health allowed. George acquired 50 years of sobriety through the help of his AA friends & Family.

George was frugal. He also loved to drive a hard bargain at local flea markets to bring home many treasures that made him happy. His frugality allowed him to save money for his favorite things; the casino, lotto tickets & Pepsi; which let the wallet flow like the fountain of youth.

George will be missed by his wife Eleanor (Daisy) and by many others; disliked by some (no one cares about) those people; and held safely in the hearts of those who loved and cared for him….Congratulations George on driving your last lap into heaven and still winning the race. Until we meet again enjoy heaven. Love your family & friends. He is survived by his wife Eleanor Wood; children Dawn (Rob) Metz of New York, Ragner Swanson of Muskegon, Sally Parker of Holland, Alvin (Joann) Swanson of Muskegon, George (Kim) Wood JR of North Muskegon, Cathy (Oliver) Swanson of Grand Rapids; 22 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; many extended family and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Wood Sr; a daughter Annette Swanson; Great Granddaughter Bristol Fessenden; Great Grandson Abe Swanson; siblings Lori Wiggins, Jan Hall, and Jim Omar.

Margaret (Ward)Felt and I, Suzie (Ward) Britton would like to give you our heartfelt sympathy. Georgie was our cousin and our brother, Sam, was a good friend. I remember Georgie with a smile on his face. Sam would keep in touch with him through the years. You are right, this is not goodbye, but will see him again. May our God give you peace and comfort at this time.

I met George as my neighbor in Fruitport in the trailer park. I watched George Jr doing his BMX thing and watching George cheer from the sidelines and how proud George was of his son. The many trips to the flea market our families would make together. I was so happy when George and Daisy got together. They were good for each other. His loss will be felt by many. George was a great man.
