

(Janowski) Wawrzyniak and passed away under the loving care of his family and Brookhaven staff on
April 14, 2017. While in high school he was an exceptional athlete and was proudly part of St. Mary’s
1941 ‘Irish’ football team that would be the first undefeated and untied team in the history of the
school. He was listed as one of the outstanding players of that season. He served, honorably, his
country in World War II in the United States Navy. He retired from Teledyne Continental Motors. Jim
also tended bar for many years for Mike’s Tavern and Lamp Lite Inn. He was an avid Chicago White Sox
fan and enjoyed playing the game as a young man. He won state titles with the Polish Falcons fast pitch
softball team. Jim loved his family and spending time with them. He is survived by his children Cathy
(Tyler) Grover, Jerome (Marcia) Wawrzyniak, Cleda (Lou) Schaub and JoAnna (Tom) McIntosh and by his
step children Denise (Bruce) Brumm, Guy (Charlotte) Weersing, and Alex (Jan) Wallace. Also surviving
him are his 19 grandchildren and his many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives
Beverly and Phyllis (JoAnna) and two sons Joseph Wawrzyniak and David Walsama. Services will be held
at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 20, 2017 at St. Michaels Catholic Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to
the services. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s cemetery.
