Joann was born on November 20, 1930, in Muskegon, MI.
As a young bride and young mother, she and her husband moved all over the country before finally settling for most of her life in Titusville, FL. In her later years, she moved to Melbourne FL to be closer to her youngest daughter. After she had a stroke in 2018, she moved in with her youngest daughter but her heart was still in Michigan. When her oldest daughter Marlene retired, Joann was able to live with her in Muskegon and was so happy to be back home where she could enjoy the cold and the snow. Joann spent the last few months of her life at Christian Care Memory Center where she was lovingly cared for and fawned over by the wonderful staff there. Joann loved the outdoors and one of her favorite things to do was walk in Hoffmaster Park. With a little help, she was still able to enjoy these walks well into her 91st year. Joann’s greatest life adventure was the trip she took to Amsterdam with her son Jordan and daughter-in-law Pam. Joann loved to cook and bake for her family and made it look so easy. Unfortunately, this was not a trait that was passed on to any of her children, and not for lack of trying. She also loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor and this was something she did pass on to all of her children. Although mostly to the youngest one.
Joann is survived by: her son, R Jordan (Pam) McDowell; her daughter, Dixie Anne (Jeff) Humphreys; her brothers, Mark Rousell and Lewis Rousell; sister-in-law, Elaine Rousell; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter; she also leaves behind her long-time loyal companion Bob who brought her many years of love, joy and laughter.
Joann was preceded in death by: her husband, Rene McDowell; her daughters, Susan McDowell, Cindy Isaac, and Marlene Wren.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024 at Egelston Cemetery.
