It was my honor and privilege to get to know John Henry over the last few years.  He knew and was a friend of my husband and I had the pleasure of calling him my friend too.  I had many opportunities to be with him over the past year and a half and will greatly miss seeing him.  My heart goes out to the family at this sad time and my prayers are with you.

To the entire Henry family, our deepest sympathy at the loss of General John Henry.  He was a wonderfully generous man and always unassuming and so willing to praise and acknowledge everyone else's contributions.  My father, Col. William C. Clark, served with John in the 339th Fighter Group during WWII and they remained friends until my father's passing in 1988.  My entire family enjoyed attending the 339th yearly reunions over the years and especially looked forward to visiting with John as did all the members of the Group. I am profoundly saddened to learn of General Henry's death and profoundly grateful to have known such a fine gentleman:a man of distinction, dignity, and kindness.

My parents--Colonel and Mrs. Donald W. Peacock--thought so highly of the general and of his wife, Maxine and attended many of their lovely parties.  When my father was in an assisted living facility, Gen. Henry visited him often and they shared good talks.

I will remember this fine man with smiles and with gratitude.

My deepest condolensces to the Henry family.  I served with General Henry at Quarry Heights, Canal Zone, Republic of Panama during the 1960s, when he was the Chief of Staff.  One of my assigned duties was to deliver mail to his quarters during the weekend.  Mrs. Henry always greeted me with a smile and a cold glass of lemonade.  Another good memory of my time with Gen Henry was that he always made sure I had a seat available on his plane when he made his annual trip to Kelly AFB for his physical check-up.  He always was interested if it had rained in the Chrsitine/Charlotte, TX area.  I was born in Dilley, TX. (Frio County), another farming community approximately 25 miles SW of Charlotte.

During his illustrious United States Air Force career, Major General Henry distinguished himself as a true American military leader and hero having been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in combat.  His life has left an indelible imprint on the military history of our country and its military services.
