Joseph Leroy Wright, age 81, passed away on June 4, 2026. He was born July 4, 1944, in Muskegon, Michigan, to Leo A. and Genevieve (Ringenberg) Wright, and was a lifelong resident of the Muskegon area.
Joseph was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a service he carried with quiet pride and steady devotion. A hard-working man throughout his life, he spent 15 years as a mechanic for Morrison and for Gerber for over 20 years prior to retirement—years marked by reliability, skill, and the kind of daily dedication that builds a life of substance.
His grandson Brandon Wright preceded him in death in January of this year.
Joseph was married to Ora for 60 years, a lasting partnership that stood as the center of his family. He is survived by his children: John (Laura) Wright, Jamie (Dale) GIllard, Julia (James) Robbins, Earl (Megan Davis) Wright, James (Amanda) Wright, and Jeffrey (Carrie Sturmon) Wright; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren (and 1 more on the way); in laws Pat Foster and Lewis Corner; as well as many extended family and friends.
In the community, Joseph was a steadfast supporter of veterans groups, offering his time and encouragement in ways that reflected his respect for those who served.
Above all, Joseph will be remembered as a man with a big heart who cared for everyone. He lit up when his grandchildren and great grandchildren entered the room; they quickly became the light of his life, and his love for them was unmistakable. He enjoyed volunteering for Bike Time and looked forward to it every year. His presence—steady, generous, and grounded in a lifetime of hard work—will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service with Military Honors will be 11:00am Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Ever Rest Funeral Home and Chapel, 1783 E. Keating Ave., Muskegon.
Visitation will be from 6-8pm Tuesday, June 9, and from 10:30am until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
