Kerry John was born in Muskegon, Michigan on August 15, 1961, to John A. Brown and Karla J. (Davison) Brown. In his youth, Kerry was an active participant in sports and treasured his years playing football and baseball for Fruitport schools. Every summer, between sports activities and chasing young girls, Kerry worked hard trimming trees for a nearby farm in Nunica.
He also enjoyed many fun-filled days on Ford Lake with family, friends and his beloved grandpa, Oscar Davison. And of course, each year in November was deer hunting time at Grandpa Duane Brown’s shack in the woods. Ruby Creek was a safe place to spread tall tales around the poker table.
Then, like many young men of his time, Kerry headed west looking for gold in California. What he found there was a brief stint of factory work, learning to paint airplanes. Upon returning, to Michigan, Kerry settled in Norton Shores and went to work for Al Geisler’s autobody shop. He spent his final working years at Alcoa Automotive Castings in Spring Lake Township. Unfortunately, due to lead poisoning and family inherited blindness, Kerry was forced to take early retirement. He loved his work and was proud to make his way in life.
Kerry John is survived by his mother, Karla Brown of Fruitport, three sisters, Denise (Gary) Marshall of Brighton, Janine (Bruce) Coker of the Dominican Republic, and Tracy (Mike) Baer of China Township, 7 nieces and nephews, and several stepchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, John (aka Jack) Brown.
Kerry will be greatly missed for his unique “Brown family” sense of humor. Like his dad, Jack, he loved to make people laugh.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, September 20th at 1:00 pm at Fruitport VFW Post 3734, 5201 Airline Road, Fruitport, MI 49444.
