Lance Christopher Jenkins

October 2, 1991November 15, 2020

On Sunday, November 15, 2020, Lance Jenkins passed away at the age of 29.

Lance Christopher Jenkins (known as Chris) was born on October 2, 1991 in Jacksonville, Florida. He grew up faithfully attending Harvest Baptist Church and attended school at Harvest Baptist Academy. He was led to Christ by his grandmother, Maryann Schenck, at the age of 6. His mother, Lorraine, raised Christopher and his sister Kylie, in church and was a faithful example of what a Christian should be. As a teenager, Christopher surrendered his life to the Lord and never looked back. He attended The Crown College in Tennessee for a year, after which he travelled back to Jacksonville to work as a youth pastor in his home church. He served there faithfully for 3 years, before moving to Kentucky to finish his college education. It was there at Commonwealth Baptist College that he met his wife, Laura Houser. Their wedding took place on June 11, 2016. He graduated the next year with his bachelor's of science in Bible and Pastoral Theology degree on May 12, 2017. Christopher spent a year in Iowa working with Laura's father, Pastor Steve Houser, before moving to Michigan to serve as an assistant pastor at Broadway Baptist Church under Pastor Brian Jackson.

Christopher dearly loved his Lord, wife, family, pastor, and church. He was a dedicated husband, loyal son, and protective big brother. He gave his heart to every one of the teens he worked with. His dedication to bringing himself and others closer to the Lord was evident to all who knew him. He cared for his friends and encouraged them to always live their best for Christ. The person Christopher appeared to be was the person he truly was inside. He loved helping others and willingly volunteered his time without hesitation. He enjoyed every aspect of life. He taught and firmly believed that a life serving Christ is a joyous one. His genuine smile and laugh lifted all those around him. He was devoted to his wife and made certain there was always time to spend building on their relationship. He was constantly striving to be a better Christian, mentor, husband, brother and son. Though his life was not always an easy one, Christopher chose to focus on the good; praising all those who had invested in him. He was known best for his infectious laugh, love of life, and passion for the Lord.

"According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death." Philippians 1:20

I just heard the news today of Chris's passing. I just wanted to express my condolences to his family. I have nothing but good memories of Chris and how much he loved working with the youth at Harvest Baptist. I truly believe no one could ever say a bad word about Chris and his love for Christ was evident in the way he faithfully served Him. He was so kind. Rest easy with Jesus Chris.

Laura has been my dearest friend since college. I have so many memories...from the first time she told me about Chris over the phone, to just a couple of months ago when my husband and I were able to spend a week with them. I remember in one of the games of Catan Chris knew pretty early on that he didn’t have a chance, so he just tried to help me and influence my decisions with out just completely telling me what to do. He honestly just loved everyone and was always himself! My life is forever changed by Laura’s friendship, Chris testimony, and God’s grace. I sure do love this family.

I had the privilege of attending college with Chris. His laugh was definitely contagious and could be heard a “mile” away. The memory that keeps coming to mind is a double date we had at a Mexican restaurant. Even though the day was rainy, gloomy, and cold, Christ made the evening bright with his personality. Marcus and I could see why Laura loved him. He allowed life to truly shine through him! His memory will live on through he touched on this side of heaven. What grand reunion that will be when we see him once again.

I remember Brother Jenkins from college (CBC)
He was always an encouraging person to be around.
He always had a smile and a kind word to offer to anyone he was around.
He was a great influence in my life.

Chris was an amazing young man who God used to touch many lives. I remember him as a little boy and as a teenager at Harvest. He had such a joy for the Lord. There was no doubt that he loved Jesus with all his being. Praying for the family as this is a huge loss. Thank you Jesus that we will see Chris again one day. ❤️🙏🏻

Christopher is my nephew he made me a proud Aunt when I was just 6 years old. We grew up together being together nearly 5-6 days a week we would see each other. I remember when he was a baby I would love to hold him & not want to let him go. I would ride him around on my power wheels 4 wheeler often in our big backyard. We would play catch often. His mom Lorraine is my oldest sister she is 14 years older than me. She has always been kind to me & loved me but I can tell you one thing for absolute sure she loves her 2 kids Christopher & Kylie more than any person on this earth she always taught them Jesus first then family & friends etc.
My parents Maryann & David Schenck also had a big part of being apart of Christopher & Kylie’s upbringing they love them & all their 11 grandchildren. Christopher was an amazing son & very much amazing brother & I know he was an amazing husband & friend he will be missed by 100’s of people that he has touched their lives. I appreciate everyone at Broadway Baptist Church & everywhere in between that was a friend & looked after him & loved him. Thank you. Your Aunt Robin loves you Christopher & I am sad I won’t see you again until we see you in heaven please watch over my kids & your whole family & friends.
I am attaching a photo of my wedding day Nov 6, 2010 Christopher just turned 19.

I will never forget the love he had for the teens and for my kids. I seen it in his eyes and actions what the teens meant to him. He always offered to help me with my vehicles and only accepted the one time. I sure wish I could have spent more time with him but I will. Soon enough I’ll see you brother. Miss that laugh!! My kids miss ya so much. Always be remembered.

As a newer member of Broadway Baptist Church, I only had the honor of knowing Brother Jenkins for a few months, but his character and heart were such that made a life-long impact. He was one of the first to welcome me to the church and he greeted me every time I saw him. Always bubbling with joy and a smile on his face that was contagious. His happy, boyish laugh is a sound that will be greatly missed at our church but never forgotten. He loved the church, adored his wife, had a deep mutual love for the youth, and most of all genuinely loves Jesus Christ (present tense intended). He was always eager to help in any way that he could. I didn't know him long but long enough to know him forever. I look forward to seeing him again at Home. This world could sure use more people like Pastor Lance Christopher Jenkins. However, his is a vacancy that will never be filled. I used to love Lake Michigan but will never see it the same way after taking my friend and Brother. Fact is, I'm quite jealous because I'd much rather be where he is. My heart hurts so much for Miss Laura. God's Peace to his family and friends.
