Lawrence Sarge A. Gillett

Mr. Lawrence “Larry” A. Gillett “Sarge”, age 73, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2013. He was born in Muskegon on September 10, 1939 to Gerald and Elaine (Hibbs) Gillett. Sarge is survived by his son, Timothy Gillett of Muskegon; grandson, Allen Gillett of Muskegon; two sisters, Sue Gillett of OH and Nancy Gillett of Muskegon; two brothers, Mark Gillett of Muskegon and Daniel Gillett of SC; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty and by a son, Larry. Sarge had worked at ALCOA in Fruitport. He was a U.S. Army Veteran with over twenty-two years of combined service. He served in Korea and had multiple tours in Vietnam as a tank commander and Platoon Sergeant. Sarge was a Life Member of VFW Post 446 where he was Post Officer of the Day for the Post Honor Guard. He also was an active member of the Muskegon County Council, having attended many funerals for his fallen comrades. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Ever Rest Funeral Home and Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Harbor Hospice or the DAV.
