Leona Esther Simpkins

Mrs. Leona E. (Walsh) Simpkins of Muskegon, Michigan passed away on June 11, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. Leona was born in Escanaba, Michigan on November 20, 1936 to Warren Walsh and Kathryn (Preston) Walsh. She moved to Muskegon, Michigan in 1942, and other than a few years spent in Alaska with her husband, she lived most of her life in Muskegon. She married the love of her life, Carl Simpkins, on October 27, 1951. Along with other jobs, Leona drove bus for Muskegon Public Schools for 20 years until she retired in 1997. Leona enjoyed playing games, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Leona is survived by her children, Dawn (David) Johnson of Edmore, Michigan and Douglas (Lil Springsdorf) of Muskegon, grandchildren, Christopher Johnson of Denver, Colorado, Timothy Johnson of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, Tabatha Springsdorf of Muskegon, Jessica (David) Pinkston and Christina Springsdorf of Muskegon, great grandchildren, Abigail Springsdorf and Lyric Springsdorf of Muskegon, sister, Frances (Don) Griffis of Muskegon, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and honorary children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Simpkins, parents, Warren and Kathryn(Preston) Walsh, father-in-law, Thomas Simpkins, mother-in-law, Nora (Sissell) Simpkins, sister, Rose (Walsh) Glore, brothers, Walter W. Walsh and Wilbur James Walsh. Graveside service for Leona will be held at Sunrise Memorial Gardens (2188 Remembrance Dr) on August 10, 2018 at 11:00am with a luncheon to follow.
