I went to school with Matt.  Always had a smile on his face.  My thoughts to his family during this difficult time.

Matt was a great guy who had an awesome laugh and personality..  I first got to know Matt as a Middle School track athlete..  Great shot putter and ran an opening leg of the conference champion 440 relay. 
Matt and I corresponded regularly on Facebook and just recently we got to visit and go for lunch in Fremont..  Will miss the conversations and him personally..  Gone too soon but now pain free.. 

Had the pleasure of working with Matt at CWC TEXTRON in the maintenance department as a millwright.   He was a great person  to work with  but his happiest days were spent with a gun... bow... or a fishing pole in his hand..not a wrench. that was his true passion.   Rest in peace  Matthew.... gone too soon 😢

I use to see Matt in Fremont on occasion and we would share small talk and a few laughs.  I also enjoyed  our many talks and political debates on Facebook.  He was a good man.  He was so excited to become a Grandpa.  I love the fact that he served our great country by serving in the United States Army.  He will be missed by many.

We are shocked and saddened by the loss of Matt. He shared New Year's Eve with us at the Moose Lodge, where we laughed and talked until almost midnight. Even through his pain he was a wonderful person and we will miss him tremendously.

Aunt Deb, Dan and Cousin Mark,
I am so very sorry to hear about Matt's passing. I know that his health struggles were a burden for him, and for you all.

For many of his family and friends, their best memories of Matt revolve around hunting and fishing. For me, my best memories are all about sports. Oakridge Football, Holton Baseball, Softball World...these are the things that I will remember best. Nobody could cuss out a football ref better than Matt, and always with a twinkle in his eye to let you know he was mostly just messing around. And he was always so proud to have been able to help his cousins in Holton, I recall watching Holton play at North Muskegon and just standing by the fence chatting with Matt and getting the low down on the best players for Holton's team that year.

I know that I've not been as close to Matt in the last few years as I was in the past, and that makes me sad. He was always loved, probably more than he knew. Rest easy Cousin.

Deb you, Mark and your families have my deepest sympathy.  Matt was a great person.  Nothing anyone can say will lessen the pain.  Please know my thoughts are with you.

To know Matt you knew that he enjoyed high school, absolutely was a sport fanatic, he took his role in the Army very serious, his love for being on the river and fishing was strong always talking to everyone out there. He enjoyed all kinds of hunting from bow to muzzleloader and all species were game. He would look forward to getting anyone out there to fish or hunt. Even though all the pain he was in daily he would push to get you out there. He absolutely light up talking about his family. He loved his grandkids. He was not only one of a kind he made you feel loved. He will be missed.


Matt was such a fighter.  It was always a pleasure when he  would visit the Fremont Moose Lodge, especially in the afternoons when I would be working.  I enjoyed talking with him, listening to how much he enjoyed hunting and  fishing .  Matt was a true gentleman who always had a hug to give, and a smile to share, even during those days when he was in pain.  Rest in peace my friend.  You will be missed.  My condolences to his family and his many, many friends. 

Matt and I go back to our high school days. From rabbit hunting, steelhead fishing, playing softball and just hanging out at each other homes, I always considered him and Frog great friends. Even tho we lived hours apart, Matt will be truly missed.

On behalf of the Fremont Moose Lodge, we would like to send out deepest sympathies.  Mat was a great guy always willing to lend a hand or an ear to listen.  Even when he wasn't feeling the best himself.  In the time that he was a member at the lodge several of us got to know him pretty well and had the privilege to call him friend.  He will be missed by all of us.

The family is in my thoughts and prayers. Matt was one of the good ones. I loved seeing him when I’d work or go up to the Moose for dinner. He was always one to say hi, give out a hug, ask how my family was. He will forever be missed. We were blessed to have him serve our country to protect our freedoms 

I was saddened to hear the news of your passing!  I know that the memories of deer camp, rabbit hunting and Oakridge football games gives us fond memories with my family!  My children still talk about the deer camp stories with you, my dad and my brothers!  You will be missed!  

Deb we are so sorry that Matt was taken away from you so early.We felt like he was one of our own.When the kids were younger,we spent a lot more time with him than we have recently but we will truly miss him.🙏💕
