Richard "Dick" McCarthy, age 72 of Muskegon, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at home. Dick was born in Muskegon on July 18, 1942 to Lovine R. and Gertrude E. (Kraus) McCarthy. He graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central in 1960 and continued to support their sports program as a proud alumnus. He was an avid sports fan and loved competing in various sporting events. In 1997, Dick was the Greater Muskegon Men's Cribbage Champion. Dick worked for 47 years at Lift Tech and was a proud member of the Fruitport Eagles. Dick is survived by his special friend, Dolores "Dee" Garza; his brothers, Frank (Sandy) McCarthy, and Bob (Bev) McCarthy; his children, Christine Bittinger, Keri (Kenneth) Skipper, and Eric (Heather) McCarthy; and his grandchildren, Josh, Avery, and Hayden. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Fruitport Eagles, 3354 S Dangl Rd, Muskegon, MI 49444. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations are sent to the Veterans Home, 3000 Monroe Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
