Robert Strong

Mr. Robert Hugh Strong, age 62, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at home after a brave battle with cancer. He was born in Muskegon, MI on December 21, 1951 to Hugh and Dolores (White) Strong. Mr. Strong was a graduate of Mona Shores High School and had attended both Muskegon Community College and Grand Valley State University. After retiring from Mona Shores Schools, Mr. Strong went on to drive semi-truck for Foreway Transportation and in recent years worked as a bus driver for Fruitport Community Schools and the Wild for Books Book bus. On April 1, 1979 he married Mary Margaret Tibbitts at Crestwood United Methodist in Muskegon, MI. In his earlier years he was an avid cyclist and member of the Muskegon Bicycle Club. He was also involved with Muskegon Civic Theater as both a performer and volunteer. Mr. Strong was an avid reader and music enthusiast and also enjoyed camping with family and travel. His infectious laugh and warm heart will be remembered by all who knew him. He faced every day with a courage and humor that will not be forgotten. Mr. Strong is survived by loving wife, Mary Margaret (Tibbitts) Strong; sister, Sarah Taylor; sister-in-law, Rochelle (Casey) Vaandering; brother, Greg (Robin) Civis; daughters: Andrea (Jacob) Iams, Alicia (Tony) Vitto, Elizabeth (Scott) Merriman; extended family, Mellisa and Scott Steinhauer and Amanda and Dustin Shunta; beloved nieces and nephews; 11 beautiful grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents, Hugh B. Strong and Dolores M. Strong; special friends: Ethel Anne Civis and Gerald E. Civis, Jr. A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Ever Rest Funeral Home & Chapel (1783 E. Keating Ave., Muskegon). The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service beginning at 3:00pm. Memorial contributions may be given to Wild for Books (book bus Fruitport-Community Schools) and the family.
