

Ruth Jane VanDeWege, age 93, went quietly and peacefully into the arms of her Savior on August 21, 2015, surrounded by her family. Ruth was born on December 14, 1921 in Clarinda, Iowa and lived in Burlington Junction, Missouri where she met her husband Leonard who was stationed in the military. They were married on September 18, 1945 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Ruth was a founding member of Maplewood Reformed Church in Holland. She was an avid reader, and also loved her flower garden and watching the birds by their feeders. She was also a Detroit Tigers fan. She faithfully cared for her husband Leonard who passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2009. Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her children: Sharon Ruth (David) Dalman of Zeeland, Allen C. (Scarlett) VanDeWege of Holland, and Curtis Lee (Mary) VanDeWege of Overisel; grandchildren: Jason (Danielle) VanDeWege, Sara Ruth (Alex) Erskine, Matt (Erica) Dalman, Ben (Courtney) VanDeWege, Casey VanDeWege, Molly (Carlos) VanDeWege-Silva, and Alexandra VanDeWege; great grandchildren: Nathan Erskine, Emma Ruth Erskine, Grant Erskine, Andrew Dalman, Ethan Dalman, Caleb Dalman, Megan Dalman, Kaleigh VanDeWege, Drew VanDeWege, and Parker VanDeWege. She was preceded in death by both parents: Allie and Artie Eastman; husband, Leonard VanDeWege; brothers: Miles Eastman and Max Eastman. Ruth’s family would like to thank her wonderful mail carrier, Scott George, for checking on her every day, and the staff at Dr. William Rocker’s office for always working her in. A funeral service will be held at 1:30pm on Friday, August 28, 2015 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens (994 Paw Paw Dr., Holland). The family will receive visitors one half hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00pm. Interment to follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Leonard.
