Susan was born on October 13, 1954, in Muskegon, Michigan, to John and Evelyn Gerhardstein. At the age of 15, she met the love of her life, Ron Hill. They married in 1971 and were never apart, sharing 54 beautiful years together.
Susan and Ron created a wonderful family while raising their two kids in Muskegon, and they also played a big part in their community. Susan was that amazing woman everyone affectionately referred to as “Mom” or even “Mema,” regardless of whether they were related. She was the one you’d call as your emergency contact because, no matter when or what was happening, Susan was always ready to lend a hand!
If you knew Susan, you knew she never forgot a birthday. She made sure to call, sing “Happy Birthday,” and often bake a special cake just for you. She loved watching her hummingbirds and took great joy in filling her home with warmth, laughter, and food. No one ever left Susan’s house hungry — especially if she had made her famous grilled cheese. Susan has a deep and abiding love for her beloved fur babies. Susan always had a huge heart, brimming with love for you. She was always there to listen and ready to offer thoughtful advice. She often reassured you by saying, “Everything will be okay; sometimes, we just need someone to show us a little love.”
Susan was truly the glue that held her family together. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren beyond measure, and her love for them knew no limits. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Susan leaves behind, with broken hearts, her beloved husband of 54 years, Ron Hill, Sr.; her son, Ron (Lisa) Hill, Jr.; her daughter, Sherry (Mike Blum) Hill; her father, John Gerhardstein; her grandchildren, John (Alicia) Hill, Nicole (Mick) Hill, Haley (Cody) Hill, Jarred Hill, Samantha Hill, Jeffrey (Kori) Rollins, and Joshua Alsteen; many cherished great-grandchildren; her brothers, Craig Gerhardstein and Michael Welkoske; her sisters, Michelle Hawkins, Brenda Gerhardstein, and Wendy Larabee; her special cousin, Sheryl McGrew; her high school friend Linda Biermacher; and many countless relatives and friends.
Susan is reunited in heaven with her mother, Evelyn Gerhardstein, and her grandmother.
Per Susan’s wishes, cremation has taken place and A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 1st, 2026 at 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Fruitport Eagles.
