Tony Drelles, age 95, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023 peacefully at his home in the presence of his family. Tony was born in Muskegon, MI on March 9, 1927 to George and Theodora (Trapolis) Drelles, both immigrants from the small mountain village of Matesi, Greece. Tony married the former Donna Sands on August 9, 1953 and they spent 39 years together.
Tony was excited to serve in the United States Army during WW II, like his brothers before him. He left high school his junior year to enlist, but later went back to school to earn his high school degree at the age of 81! After the war, Tony was a restaurant operator. With his brothers he ran Drelles Restaurant, Drelles Sandwich Shop and Tohado House for many years until retiring. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going for a drive around the ovals, as well as being outdoors. He had many hunting and family dogs over the years that he loved dearly and were great companions for him. His family often called him the dog whisperer because he was so kind and patient with all animals. Tony also had a passion for woodworking, and spent many hours in his workshop teaching his grandchildren. He belonged to many community groups through the years.
Tony is survived by his daughter Denise (George) Duckett, as well as his grandchildren Zachary (Stacey) Duckett, Jessica (Nicholas) Rynberg, Emily Duckett & Steffan Sayles; great grandchildren Gracey, Kaden, Cannon, Makenzie, Lilliana, Ryder & Illiyana. Tony is also mourned by his best friend Glen Bodary, who was a comfort to him in his last years.
