William Joseph "Bill" Belanger passed away April 12, 2018. He was 96 years young. Bill was born on August 23, 1921 in the Lake Leelanau area, born to Clarence and Caroline Belanger. The Belanger family was one of the five founding families that settled the area west of Traverse City. Williams’s grandparents immigrated from France via Quebec in the early 1800's. Bill spent most of his adult life in the Muskegon area where he raised his family before retiring.
He served in the U.S Army during World War II and was awarded multiple bronze stars for his efforts. In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and RV’ing.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Florene, of 68 years, son, Larry, and two daughters, Nancy and Cheryl. He is survived by two sons, Daryl of Traverse City and Dan of Chicago, Illinois, son in law, Douglas Baker of Muskegon, four Grandchildren, Meghan and Joshua Baker of Muskegon, Christine Belanger-Krause of Waupun, Wisconsin, and Lori Belanger-Buchanan of Prescott, Arizona along with several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Ever Rest Funeral Home and Chapel on Saturday, April 21 at 11am. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, a luncheon in Bill’s honor will be served in the chapel immediately following the service.
