Albert was predeceased by his first wife, Margarete. He is remembered by his wife, Lieselotte; his children Karl (Alice), Hanne (Willy), Harry, and Erich; and his grandchildren Erica, Kevin, Aaron, Britta, and Barbara (Sean). He also leaves behind his stepchildren Lutz, Andrea, Peter, Udo, Margit, and their families; his nieces and nephews Arthur, Ewald, Waltraut, Norbert, Monika, and their families; and his sisters-in-law Christel, Lucia, Else, and their families.
Albert personified the word “friendship.” He was the best neighbour one could ask for. He loved talking to people, be it over the garden fence, while beating you in a game of crib, or in a grocery store checkout line. Any friend of ours became a friend of his. He loved family gatherings and being with people. He was an opa extraordinaire. His compassion and big heart knew no bounds. We learned so much from his example.
We would like to thank Bob Swain and Tom Hilborn for being such good friends to him.
We would also like to express our gratitude to the community home nurses who looked after both Albert and us: you are truly angels. We also extend a thank you to his long time doctor, now retired, Geof Spry, for always caring about him.
Please join us to celebrate his life on Saturday, January 21st, 10:00am, at First Memorial Funeral Home (1720 Bowen Road). Please do not wear black. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Albert’s name to the Nanaimo SPCA.
We miss you and wish you peace, Opa Big Al.
Arrangements under the direction of First Memorial Funeral Services, Nanaimo, BC.
