Ann Margaret BATTISON (b. 1952) died peacefully on October 24, 2016 in palliative care at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, surrounded by her loving extended family. Ann was born in Burnaby, BC and lived and grew up in the Lower Mainland and in the Victoria area. She attended Claremont HS and majored in Anthropology at the University of British Columbia. She married Donald Peter Cain in 1979 and lived in London, Ontario until 2011, when they retired and moved to the Nanoose Bay area on Vancouver Island. Ann was an avid gardener in both London and Nanoose Bay, but her enduring passions were sewing, textiles, and crafts that made use of natural found objects and materials, particularly those found on the coasts of Vancouver Island. Her crafting ideas and skills found their way into many gifts and decorations, and her sewing and knitting skills are represented in many items of clothing that she made for herself and others. Ann spent many happy hours in service to Girl Guides, the London Children's Festival, and other organizations. Warm, loving, kind, generous, funny, talented, beautiful, and very smart are some words that come to mind. Also, an amazing wife and mother, a delighted grandmother, a wonderful friend, and the best sister. Ann's warmth, vitality, creativity, and humour truly will be missed by family, friends, and all who knew her. She was predeceased by her mother Ada Battison Smith, father Charles 'Tye/Chuck' Battison, and Aunts Mary Richmond and Helen Dean. She is survived by husband Donald Peter Cain, daughter Emily Maria Battison Cain Walker (Jack), son Nathan Edwin Battison Cain, granddaughter Sophia Marie Roux Walker, and sister Dale Kathryn Battison Abeling (Frank). A celebration of Ann's life will be held at a later date, to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations to BC & Alberta Guide Dogs.
