Brenton (“Brent”) David Richardson was born in Duncan, BC to doting parents David and Sherry Richardson and proud big sister Bobbi. He grew up in Lake Cowichan until his family moved to the mainland in 1987. Brent retuned to the island with his parents in 1994 and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 8, 1995.
Brent became a father to his firstborn son Malachi James in 2001, and later welcomed his second son, Keiran McLean in 2006. Brent married his best friend Shannon in July 2009, and they were happy to have yet another son, Peirce Wyatt Beck in 2011. The boys couldn’t have asked for a better Dad.
Brent was a true “Man’s man”. He loved to play and watch every sport, especially golf and football. He was extremely outdoorsy, pursuing passions of hunting, fishing, camping and dirt biking, a love of which he also instilled in the boys.
One of the highlights of Brent and Shannon’s life was travel - they created many memories on holidays with the boys including trips to Mexico, Las Vegas, Seattle, Whistler and Edmonton. Brent and Shannon enjoyed their annual trips to the Okanagan with Bobbi and Jason, and bonded while travelling as a couple to New York, Europe and other locations. Brent was well known for being fiercely loyal and extremely generous. Brent was a successful businessman due to his honesty, ethics and his ability to forge a personal relationship with almost everyone he encountered.
Brent loved his God Jehovah and inculcated the same love in the boys. Brent, Shannon and the boys enjoyed serving Jehovah together and their spiritual routine kept them closely knit. Brent also loved country music, fondue, and a good bourbon.
He was Shannon’s cheerleader, a loving son to his parents, an adored baby brother to Bobbi, a fun uncle to Triston, Jacob and Max (and many adopted nieces and nephews!) and a precious, priceless friend.
Brent faced his cancer diagnosis with positivity, bravery and dignity. He focussed on making memories, helping other people, and sticking close to Jehovah and the congregation. He fought incredibly hard, but unfortunately could not conquer the “last enemy, death”. After many months of pain and suffering, we are all so grateful that Brent is sleeping peacefully, alive and well in Jehovah’s memory.
The family wishes to acknowledge and express appreciation for the Nanaimo Palliative Care Unit, who went above and beyond in caring for Brent.
