Carole was born April 9, 1930 in Rimbey, Alberta to John and Elizabeth Phillips. She spent her childhood in Southern Alberta with her brothers Ken (June), Don (Betty), and Dave (Marge) and sister Dorreen (Eugene Arnold). After graduating from high school in Cardston, she became a teacher and took her first job on a Hutterite Colony. It was there she met a farmer named Rudy Weikum, they were married in 1950. After deciding farming wasn’t their cup of tea, they moved to a logging camp at Franklin River, Vancouver Island. When their three sons, Mel (Sharon), Gary (Debra), and Brian (Janet) began school the family moved to Port Alberni where Carole raised their boys and worked as a substitute teacher. After becoming empty nesters, Carole and Rudy moved to Parkville where she spent much of her time gardening, baking, going for long walks, and traveling. Their summers were spent with their grandchildren Reid, Whitney, Alexis (Leif), and Aaron (Sarah). In 1996, Carole and Rudy moved to Nanaimo. In the last twelve years of her life she created life long memories full of love and cinnamon buns with her great grandchildren Jude, Odessa, Elias, and Freya.
Carole was predeceased by her parents, husband, and twin brother. She is survived by her siblings, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and Annie.
Carole took great pride in her family, she kept us all well fed and loved! She will be fondly remembered and always loved and missed. At her request, there will not be a service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. If you would like to pay a personal tribute to her, we recommend eating your favorite prawn dinner. We would also like to extend our appreciation to the amazing staff at Lakeside Gardens and NRGH emergency and cardiac units for their exceptional care.
