It is with heartfelt sorrow and great sadness we announce the passing of our dear and beloved Mom, Grandma, and cherished friend. Elaine Russell Ferneyhough (nee Worthington) 88, was a longtime resident of Nanaimo, B.C. She was well known among her loved ones for her sense of humor, honesty, and selfless caring heart. She passed away surrounded by the love of her family and with her sweet cat Sophie at her feet. We find comfort in knowing that where she is now, there was just as much love waiting for her as she left here with us.
As a young girl, she moved to Mayne Island with her mother and sister, where she developed a deep love for the ocean, animals, nature and in later years found the love of her life, Bill. Married in Victoria, B.C on February 14th, 1951, they spent 65 adventurous years traveling, building a life, a business, a home, and a family together that she was openly and immensely proud of.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Joan Ann Allen (nee Ferneyhough), and her husband, William Charles Ferneyhough. She is survived by her sons, Russell, Robert, and Paul Ferneyhough; daughter in law, Lori; son in law, Keith; and grandchildren, Leasa (Bradon), Janice, Tessa (Daniel), and Duncan.
An outdoor Graveside Service and burial will take place for Elaine’s Family and friends on Monday, February 14th, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Cedar Valley Cemetery, 2347 Cedar Road, Nanaimo B.C, V9X 1J7. For those able to attend, please arrive 15 minutes prior to the service time, and dress comfortably for the weather. A celebration of Elaine’s life will be announced in the coming months.
She was a lifelong animal lover and we kindly ask that if desired and in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Elaine’s name to the Nanaimo Branch of the BC S.P.C.A or the People’s Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).
