OBITUARY

GEORGE WILLIAM PRESTON

November 20, 1931November 18, 2020

PRESTON, George William - age 88, Nanaimo, B.C., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. George was born in B.C., and in 1949 at the young age of 18, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He proudly served his country and was discharged in 1962 after his duties brought him to Africa, France, Germany and England. Post military service, he worked in sales before joining Loomis Armoured Car after which he retired in 1995, but not before marrying the love of his life Venice. George and Venice Preston were married in Vancouver, in 1990, and later moved to their forever home in Nanaimo, on beautiful Vancouver Island. George remained very active in the community and was a member of, or volunteered with 808 Wing Airforce Club, 205 Air Cadet Squadron, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10, The Nanaimo Military Museum, Clay Tree Society, the R.C.M.P Community Policing Program, and Nanaimo and District Crime Stoppers.

Due to these unprecedented times, there will be no memorial service; however, in time there will be an announcement when it’s safe for all his remaining loving family and friends to attend. He will be cremated under the direction of First Memorial Funeral Services, Nanaimo. His urn will remain with Venice until an appropriate time, where he will revisit and rest near a favourite place of his at Cedar by the Sea. Venice asks that when you think of George, you do so with a smile. After all, he’d smile and wink back at you, wouldn’t he!?

Venice, I was heart broken when I heard that you had lost George. But remembering him with a smile is easy. When I think back all those years ago to when I worked for the two of you at your Hobby Shop at Country Club Mall I can say I never saw him without a smile and a friendly, kind word. The two of you were the kindest, most giving, and patriotic people that I have ever met. Over the years when I have thought of the two of you (which has been often) I always remember the pride the two of you had with the amazing stock of Canadian flags you had. I know when ever I drive by your home that the Canadian flag will be proudly flying. It was and honor to work for you both Bless you Venice and know that your loss will be felt by many.

I started cleaning for George and Venise about a year ago. I was sad to hear that he had past. He was always upbeat and happy when I saw him as was he wife, Venise. I saw how much she did to care for him and the deep love she had for George. She is a very strong woman! I have missed seeing George when I come to clean, but I continue to look forward to helping Venice with the housework, she's always so pleasant to talk to!

Dear Vince, Please accept our condolences in the loss of your precious husband George. I loved his sense of humour and his love of life!
I appreciated seeing your support of anything I did within our Church. Your combined support spurred me on and gave me confidence, to do the things that I felt I was called to do.
Your friendship has always meant so much. Remember that I am here for you as you move forward.
Sincerely,
George & Betty Benson.
