Hilda was the loving wife of George Costuros (deceased in 2008) for 30 years and the devoted mother of Brian Hurt, Tim Hurt (Keela) , Monte Hurt (Beccy) and of course, Georgie the Chihuahua. She was also the much loved step-mother of Carla Costuros (Don Spence), Wanda Costuros (Doug Whitehead), Georgina Costuros (deceased) and Aureene Costuros (Mark Elvin). Hilda adored all of her grandchildren, including Bradley Hurt (Rhonda), Brianne Davio (Jay), Sara Hurt, Kelsey Chin (Adam), Bailey Hurt, Dylan Costuros Hay (Jess) ,Bryndan Costuros Spence (Jason Steeves) and Quin Henshaw, Jason Moore (Chantal), Matthew Moore, Alyssa Moore and her great-grandchildren, including Jordan and Paige Hurt, Morgan and Aston Davio, Ember Steeves, Madison Moore and future grandson Chin (expected in Nov). Hilda is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Hilda was the youngest born in to a large, boisterous family of 6 in Edmonton. Her siblings Monty, Phyllis, Jim, Kay and Thelma all pre-deceased Hilda. She had three sons from her first marriage and single- handedly raised them in Edmonton, supporting them as a secretary for the Government of Alberta until 1998. Her true love was George Costuros whom she swept off his feet and married in 1979. George was an only child, but through Hilda’s extended family, he found a “tribe” of his own.
Hilda and George moved to Nanaimo in 2003, to escape Edmonton’s cold weather never regretting the decision as they loved to walk through Morrell Nature Sanctuary, where they would take the dog for walks every day. Hilda also enjoyed meeting friends at the Maffeo Sutton Park on nice days. In 2012, Hilda moved in with Tim and his family until her passing.
Hilda was quite adventurous, travelled to Asia many times, but Las Vegas was her favorite destination! Hilda’s true passion and purpose was to love and support her family (and her dogs). She was funny, non-judgmental, and always happy to see everyone. She was very close to her grandchildren – in fact they would tell Hilda things they would never disclose to their parents (and she could keep a secret!).
She will forever be in our hearts.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
