
Jack Robison McGrath, 88, of Cedar, BC, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025, hand-in-hand with his cherished wife Donnellda (nee Shaver) of 62 years. Born on June 6, 1937, in Kearns, ON, he was the son of Thelma (nee Robison) and William McGrath. Jack grew up in Golden City, ON.
Jack began his employment straight out of high school, at Pamour Mines in the Porcupine area. Shortly thereafter he moved to Kapuskasing ON, working as an electrician’s apprentice for the Spruce Falls Power and Paper Company. After suffering a rather serious accident, Jack changed careers again. In around 1965 he began teaching electricity and woodworking, at Iroquois Falls Secondary School, in the Northern Ontario town of Iroquois Falls and he was eventually promoted to Technical Director. Jack’s students liked and respected him very much.
Beyond his career, Jack was a dedicated husband, father, uncle and grandfather who gave freely of his time and skills to family and friends alike! After retiring, Jack and Donnellda moved to Vancouver Island, BC. In his retirement Jack became an award-winning wood carver, where he specialized in carving realistic flowers.
Jack leaves behind his wife, Donnellda Jacqueline McGrath (nee Shaver), of 62 years, his son James William McGrath (59 years) and daughter, Tammy Lee McGrath (57 years) and his sister, Beverly Berg (nee McGrath). Jack is predeceased by his grandson, Mackenzie McGrath – Smith and his two brothers, William and Patrick.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Cedar United Church. Friends and family are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society (Canada).
