It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jane Gregory. Born in Parry Sound Ontario, Jane moved to Victoria at a young age. She spent her life in British Columbia, living in many parts of the province with her beloved husband Frank. Jane graduated from Nanaimo District Secondary School and then completed her Professional Teaching Certificate and Bachelor of Home Economics from the University of British Columbia. Jane taught home economics in New Westminster, Chilliwack and Prince George.
Jane and family returned to Nanaimo in 1987 where she quickly got involved with many community based programs. She was a tireless volunteer and respected member of the community, serving on the Boards of Vancouver Island University (formerly Malaspina University-College), Milner Gardens and Woodland, Malaspina International High School and the Nanaimo Port Authority.
Jane’s life was about serving, about connecting with people and about sharing experiences as she explored the world. Jane loved to travel and spend time with her family. She lived fully and she adored her role as a mother and grandmother. Her generous spirit and positive energy were evident to all who met her.
Jane is survived by her sons Stephen (Julie) and Mike (Krista) and grandchildren Cameron, Allison and Andrew. She is also survived by her brother Bill, sister Helen (Chris) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 11:00am at St Paul’s Anglican Church, 100 Chapel Street, Nanaimo. A private family gathering will follow at Milner Gardens and Woodland.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made by cheque to the VIU Foundation at 900 Fifth Street, Nanaimo, BC V9R 5S5, referencing the Jane and Frank Gregory Memorial Fund, or through the VIU Foundation online at giving.viu.ca/jane-gregory
