Maurice, beloved husband to Adrienne, whom he called Jenny, died peacefully at the age of 95 at Glenwarren Lodge in Victoria, British Columbia, with family by his side. He was father to Corinne (Ted), Laurent (Jane), André, Ryan (Cora), and Gaëtanne.
Maurice is remembered as "Bon Papa" by his 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Gaëtane Foisy in Montreal and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Laurette, Laurent and Marielle. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Born and raised in Montreal, Maurice served in the Second World War and met Adrienne when the Canadian Forces liberated Belgium. They were married a year later, and celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary last December. Maurice and Adrienne raised their family in Montreal, Belgium, and Pine Grove, Ontario, before moving to
Edgemont Village in North Vancouver, where they lived happily for 46 years.
Maurice became an avid cyclist in his later years and was always eager to travel. He attended many significant Second World War anniversary celebrations in France and the Netherlands. He had a beautiful singing voice and was part of the church choir in his native Montreal. He delighted in the old French Canadian folk songs and would still burst out with one while lying in his bed. Some of his lesser known talents were playing the harmonica and spinning a mean yo-yo. Maurice will be remembered for his work ethic, his strong values, his generosity and his warm smile.
Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum.
There will be a Memorial Service held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on Saturday Oct 27, 2018 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow in the Garden Room.
