Joan was born in Black Cape Quebec, raised on a farm overlooking the Gaspe Peninsula.
She had eleven siblings:
Edgar, Grace, Arnold, Herbert, Byron, Donald, Isabel, Kenneth, Opal, Ella and Melvin.
Joan is survived by her sons Jason (Linda), Paul (Clair) and her precious granddaughter Kali. She is predeceased by her husband Ralph, whom she met in Toronto when she was working for the Toronto Star newspaper. They were married for 52 years.
Joan and her family spent many summers at Departure Bay Beach, walking Pipers Lagoon and Neck Point Park, and summer vacationing in the Okanagan, picking apples and tomatoes.
Fishing, crabbing, knitting and baking were her most favourite local hobbies. Travel and tennis, in particular brought her great joy. The love and passion for all of these earthly things, Joan has passed down to her family. They consider these experiences incredible gifts, of which they will always incorporate into their lives.
Joan was devoted to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. She did extensive volunteer work with the church, and many organizations.
She is remembered for being a giving, caring, loving person, admired by so many. She will be greatly missed, but now is reunited with Ralph in heaven and they are back playing Scrabble again!!!
A Celebration of life will be held for both Joan and Ralph Forshaw
