Joseph or Joe (to most) was born on January 24,1930 to Francis and Marguerite in Quebec City. He was second of seven children. He is survived by his wife, Norma; his stepdaughter, Arlyn; his son-in law, Allan; his beloved granddaughter, Ann; and his sister, Mary. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Marguerite; his brothers Frank, Robert, Leslie and Gerry; and sister, Ann.
He attended St. Patrick’s school in Quebec City from 1937 to 1945. He enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces from 1958 to 1980. While in service, he served in NATO Germany from 1960-1963 and 1968-1971 and UN Forces in Cyprus in 1965.
He settled in Nanaimo B.C. to enjoy his retirement. Joe’s life was defined by sharing joy in Christ. He was a parishioner of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Parish in Nanaimo and later on at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was very active and involved in the church’s activities, like serving as sacristan, lay minister and board of director. He is also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and Royal Canadian Legion.
He was also passionate about experiencing and appreciating God’s creation through nature, spending a lot of time tending to his garden. He had an amazing memory and told entertaining stories of his adventures while on active duty, and amazing places he has visited. He was also an avid reader and hockey/curling fan. He loved movies with an amassed collection of DVDs which he carefully catalogued.
Joseph did everything with honesty and integrity. He had very strong values and was well liked by everyone. He had always made time to help others.
A memorial service will be held on June 12, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church (6234 Spartan Rd Nanaimo, V9T 2N9).
With him in our loving memories, we are reminded that we have a choice in how we live our lives as he always said to his granddaughter “listen and be patient with those around you.”
