Louise was Born in Hearst, Ontario January 28,1942, to Irene and Laurent Larose. Louise was a happy child, she enjoyed reading, playing cards and taking care of her three little brothers. After high school at 18, Louise moved to Ottawa where she studied cosmetology/hair design, to become a hair stylist in Ottawa. In her late twenties, she moved back to her hometown of Hearst with her three young children. The family lived for several years in Hearst, Kapuskasing and Mattice. In 1979, and now a family of six (Josee, Michel, Patrick, and Sebastien) Louise and Gilles drove the family out to the West Coast, settling in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Camping and walking on the beaches and forests were among Louise’s favourite activities. Daughter Melanie was born in Nanaimo. The Vancouver Island economy was flourishing and Louise found much success in her creative pursuits, including recognition and awards for her hairstyling career.
Louise and the family moved back to London, Ontario for six years before returning to Nanaimo for good in 1992.
In mid-life, Louise started to explore her interests in art as well as to deepen her spiritual connections. She studied painting and was active in the Catholic Women’s League. Louise volunteered at St. Peters (her Church for over 40 years) and was also part of the Francophone association for many years. After retiring, Louise combined her creativity with her commitment and generosity to the church by using her certified floral design in making arrangements for after-service receptions.
Louise will always be remembered for her independence, kind heart, her resilience and beautiful spirit. An advocate for recycling properly and an avid gardener, Louise was amazed by flowers and kept an incredible garden full, attracting and feeding birdlife. She had devoted friends and an active lifestyle. She enjoyed travel, playing cards, scrabble, word search and going to the theatre. Her straight-up cheeky attitude was part of her charm, along with being an honest, reliable, and a faithful friend. As her friends recounted to daughter Josee, “She was that one special friend – always there and ready for an adventure.” She was a Yes girl!
We will see our Maman in every shining sunrise and sunset, in every stunning flower and baby’s eyes. It was always when surrounded by nature’s beauty that she found peace. Louise’s most cherished adventures happened in nature with her friends, her kids, and her beautiful grandkids. We light a candle for you Yamma, your everlasting love and light shall glow within each of us for ever and ever. Amen
As you always said, “Let go and let God”
