
We are saddened to announce the passing of Lucille Dunbar.
Born Marie Jeanne Thérèse Lucille Le Cavalier on October 2nd, 1938, in Montréal, Québec, to Joseph Jean Ernest and Marie Ivonne Flora (n. Galarneau) Le Cavalier.
Lucille grew up in Québec, the oldest of six siblings: André, Thérèse, Michel, Claudette, and Robert. She took her role as the eldest seriously and was often a second mother to them. She was kept busy with a large family and the Catholic community.
With her husband Tom, of over 50 years, Lucille or Lu, was lucky enough to travel the world, even living in South Africa for 7 years. Before finally settling in Nanaimo.
Lucille lived her life as a consummate gardener, hostess and cook. She thrived at making meals a sensory experience, often using her own homegrown vegetables in recipes.
In her later years, Lucille was an avid reader and enjoyed learning about her ancestry and Métis heritage. She was always such a force of nature, loud and lively, and quick to laugh.
She is predeceased by her husband Thomas William Dunbar (July 26th, 2017. She leaves behind her daughters Josée Belisle (Mike Belisle), Sophie Dunbar (David Crouch); stepdaughters Laurie Dunbar (Brian McLean) and Marilynne Dunbar; grandchildren Phillip Venter (Mellissa Thompson), Natacha Rushton (Jeffrey Rushton), Alexandra Crouch, Gaelen Crouch; step grandchildren Richard Dunbar-Yaffe (Adrienne Chu), and Heather Dunbar; as well as many great grandchildren.
