Thelma Reid

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Thelma Reid.

Thelma was born on August 22nd 1934 in London, England. She quietly passed away in her sleep on September 28th 2024, in Nanaimo, BC, at the age of 90.

Thelma will be lovingly remembered and missed by her brother David (June), her two sons, Matthew (Megumi), James (Nancy), her grandchildren David, Aidan, and Hannah, and nephews Simon and John. She will also be missed by all her friends and support workers at Kiwanis Lodge in Nanaimo. Thelma was predeceased by her parents Casey and Hubert Grimes.

Thelma was born in London, raised in South Wales, and later emigrated to Canada with her young family in late 1975. While in Canada, she lived in Calgary, Gabriola Island and Nanaimo. Thelma worked many years as a licensed optician in both Calgary and Nanaimo. A career that brought her much joy.

A heartfelt thank to the nurses and caregivers at the Kiwanis Lodge for the love and support they gave Thelma over the many years she was a resident at the home.

A memorial service will be arranged at a later date as her wishes were to return to her hometown of Maerdy, South Wales, UK.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that memorial donations in Thelma’s name can be made to the MS Society and the British Columbia SPCA.
