Wilma grew up the second child in a family of 6, raised by loving parents and a huge extended family. She immigrated to Canada in 1984, working in a domestic capacity until she could bring her two children with her. She began working in the hospitality industry soon after, a field that she continued in for the rest of her life.
Wilma was always taking care of other people, both at work and at home. She and her husband, George Wagner, sponsored numerous families in their efforts to move to Canada and also opened their home to help teach and nurture culinary students from all over Vancouver Island and beyond.
An avid cook, yoga enthusiast, and gardener, Wilma amazed everyone she met with her warmth, energy, enthusiasm, and love of life. Blessed with a strong work effort and desire to improve herself, she always conquered any challenge in front of her and never stopped fighting.
In the last eight years of her life, Wilma embraced a role that brought her tremendous joy - grandmother. From the first time she held her grandson, she showered him with all the love her heart possessed.
She is survived by her husband, George, her two children, Melody and Ritche, and her grandson, Drake.
The viewing and reception will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services at 1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Friday, August 10, 2018.
