Alan Dale Nelson, 89, passed away on November 1, 2020. Alan was born in Morgan Minnesota on May 31, 1931. He graduated from Madison High School and bought a gravel truck that he drove for a few years while also serving in the National Guard. His unit was called up in 1951 and he was on active duty for 2 years during the Korean conflict. Upon return from the service, Alan again drove truck for a few years and then became a State Farm Insurance agent for the next 15 years. During this time he served 4 years as a county commissioner and chaired the Stephens County Republican party for 2 years. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club , the American Legion, the Eagles Club and the Masonic Lodge where he became lodge master. However, Alan always had a love of trucking so at the age of 38 he left the insurance business and bought his own tractor and trailer. He drove cross country for 27 years. Alan was selected out of 5000 owner operators as an alternate for America’s Road Team, a prestigious group of truckers who travel around the country speaking to audiences about issues relevant to trucking. His love of trucking was part of him until the day he died.
Alan met his wife Mary in 1983 and moved to New Jersey where they were married. They later moved to Naples, Florida in 2016. Alan is survived by his wife, Mary Nelson, a sister, Brenda Korf, 4 children; Debra McNally (Mark), Sandy Jerzak (Phil), Barbara Sletto (Tom), and Steven Nelson (Rosalba), 7 grandchildren and 8 grandchildren.
Alan is under the care of Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens.
