
Anna Elizabeth (Betty) Batey died at her home in Naples, FL on March 1, 2016. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on September 18, 1920 and spent her childhood in Greenville, PA. The daughter of the late Anna Elizabeth and Joseph Scott Knapp, she graduated from Greenville High School in 1938 and from Grove City College in 1942.
Betty and her husband James W. Batey, Jr. (Jim) met while attending Grove City College. They married on September 8, 1943 residing in East Liverpool, OH until moving to Naples in 1989. Jim died in 2002.
She taught English and French at Greenville High School for a year after which she was able to join Jim at various Army bases at which he was stationed during World War II. During the war years she taught at the Dawsonville, GA High School as well as The University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS.
During her lifetime she was a member of several clubs in East Liverpool, The Twentieth Century Club of Pittsburgh, PA, LaPlaya Beach and Golf Club, Pelican Isle Club and Audubon Country Club of Naples.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Susan Batey Starkey and Barbara Batey Porter as well as a son-in-law, Scott J. Porter, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a sister, Barbara Rothrock and two nieces.
