Anne Sekuler, 90, of Naples FL, formerly of New Jersey, died November 10, 2012. She was born in Newark, NJ on August 11, 1922 to Rae Baum and Morris Haberman. After graduating from West Side High School, Anne studied at Pratt Institute in New York until June 1942 when she married Seymour Sekuler.
Anne and Seymour lived with their family in New Jersey for 32 years, 16 of these years were spent in Hackensack, followed by 16 in North Caldwell. Anne was very involved in her children’s and communities activities including being a Girl Scout Leader, a PTA member and the synagogue sisterhood.
After Seymour’s retirement Anne and Seymour moved to Naples in 1982. They were early residents of Pelican Bay at the Dorchester Condominium. Anne volunteered at the Temple Shalom gift shop and also supported the Oneg Shabbat activities. She was a tutor at Sea Gate Elementary School and a volunteer at the Immokalee Child Care Center.
While living in Pelican Bay, Anne enjoyed the beautiful beach and lovely surroundings the area had to offer. She and her husband frequented the Naples Philharmonic and the Naples Dinner Theater. They also spent a lot of time traveling in the United States and overseas visiting family as well as new and interesting venues. Anne and Seymour were married 64 years. Prior to Seymour’s death Anne and Seymour moved to Aston Gardens. After Seymour’s death in 2006 Anne continued to visit with family and travel with her children. This past August Anne’s children and grandchildren visited to celebrate her 90th birthday with her.
Anne is survived by her brother Dr. Jack Haberman of Spring Lake NJ; son Paul Sekuler of Plainfield NJ; and daughters Ellen (Richard) Schall of Gaithersburg, MD, Rachel Becker of Ogden, UT; as well as nine grandchildren, Adam, Todd (Martin) and Dale Sekuler, Sarah, Rebecca (Derrick) and Daniel Schall, Ian, Jeffrey and Leah Becker.
A memorial service will be held for Anne at Temple Shalom of Naples, 4630 Pine Ridge Road, Naples, FL 34119 on Wednesday November 14, 2012 at 3 PM.
