She is survived by an adoring family: her husband, Donald W. Major; her children, Charles Maxwell Major and Laura Mary Major; her grandchildren, Lillian Rosa Cohanim, Vivien April Cohanim, Ruth Genevieve Major, and Malcolm Louis Major; her son-in-law, Babak Cohanim; her daughter-in-law, Erin Marie Britt; her brothers William Frederick Jureit, III and Ross Calvin Jureit; and her nephews, John William Jureit and Paul Alexander Jureit. April was predeceased by her sister Leslie Lillian Jureit.
April was born on January 7th, 1949 in Miami, FL to the late Mary Emeline Hall Jureit and William Frederick Jureit, Jr. After graduating from Palmetto High School, she studied Sociology at the University of Richmond, where she met her husband, Don. They were married on April 10th, 1971. She worked as a social worker in Virginia before moving with Don to Naples, Florida, in 1976 to start Summit Medical Supplies, Inc., which they owned and operated for 39 years, serving the Southwest Florida community.
April cherished her family above all. As a working mom, she always found time to be deeply involved in the lives of her children. Over the years, she served as a PTO officer, Cub Scout leader, and Girl Scout cookie mom. She also never missed any of her kids’ recitals, plays, or sports games, no matter how far away they were. April loved to travel and went on many adventures with her children and husband, including driving the Pacific Coast Highway, experiencing winter in Jackson Hole, walking along the cobblestone streets of Brugge, and exploring medieval cities in Portugal.
Her love of family was most evident when she was with her beloved grandchildren. In retirement, she and Don made a second home in the Boston area to be closer to her grandchildren, and she embraced every opportunity to help care for them. She found great joy in being actively involved in their lives, creating cherished memories with each one.
April was a special person, gifted with empathy, intuition, and boundless generosity. She made everyone around her feel loved, supported, and accepted. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave N, Naples, FL 34108, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Avow Hospice of Collier County (https://avowcares.org) in April’s name.
